Here’s a few options to learn about the Salish Sea this summer. These vvary from tours and single classes to longer duration skill building in both Washington State and British Columbia.
Olympic Peninsula - WA
Jefferson County Historical Society
Dungeness Recreational Area - / Learn how people, geology, and nature have shaped the North Olympic Peninsula over time. Saturday, May 31
Two Hikes: 10AM - 11:30AM, 12:30PM - 2PM
Indian Island - Join us for a guided walk along the north side of the portage canal as we explore the complex history of Oak Bay and Indian Island. Learn about the region’s archaeological past, the Hudson Bay Company’s 1828 attack on a S’Klallam village, and the changing human history of this area over time. Saturday, June 14. Clink Bridge on the Dungeness River - Take an extended trek into the Dungeness Valley on this special edition History Hike! Walk through old-growth forest to the Clink Bridge site and discover the deep history of human settlement along the Dungeness River. Learn how people, geology, and nature have shaped the North Olympic Peninsula over time. Saturday, September 20

North Olympic History Center - Port Angeles
Many of their events are tied to Jefferson County's Historical Center
Port Townsend Marine Science Center
The center has many events including beach cleanups, bird watching cruises, Puffin tours, low tide walks and more. Learn More
Elevate Outdoors - Port Angeles (Kayaking)
Elevate is a kayaking outfitter in Port Angeles adjacent to Harbinger Winery on Highway 101.
They’re known for their epic sea kayaking tours for all levels on the Strait of Juan de Fuca along the ‘cliff section’ (Trip 46) in my book.
They also have bioluminescence kayaking tours, low tide beach walks, moonlight tours and a tour on Lake Crescent. Learn More
Feiro Marine Science Center - Port Angeles
The center is located on the waterfront of Port Angeles and is in the plans to build a much larger modern aquarium and marine center nearby!
Summer events include low tide walks, whale and marine science lectures, microscope studies, a Lego event for kids and much more. Learn More
The San Juan Islands
The Salish Sea School
Both adult and youth programs on-water to learn about the marine life of the Salish Sea. Definitely a lot of cool options from birding, whale watching and intertidal explorations, lots more! Learn More
Salish Sea Sciences - Friday Harbor, San Juan Island
This is a multi week program for kids to learn how to be a marine scientist on the Salish Sea. There’s a four week program and two week program including exploration boat rides, field work and more. Wish I could be a kid again to take this! Learn More

Shaw Center of the Salish Sea - In Sidney BC - North of Victoria
This aquarium and marine center is a must see if in the Saanich Peninsula which is in my book. For kids and adults there’s activities ranging from sea inspired art projects to low tide walks. Learn More
